Alka Raghuvanshi is a unique combination of a writer, curator and painter, with proven excellence in all three. Recipient of the prestigious Chameli Devi Award for Journalism, she has been honoured by the Charles Wallace Trust Award - the first person to have got it in India. She is India's first trained curator, having studied curating at the Goldsmith's College in London and the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford. Dr Alka Raghuvanshi, wears many hats for she is among the few authorities on the arts who traverses the folk and classical arts, performing and plastic arts, crafts and aesthetics with ease and is known for her crusading spirit for the arts. She is an unusual combination of scholarship and hands on person who has constantly strived to put the arts centre stage with her multi-disciplinary approach traversing the various media. It was an evening with a difference at the F bar when a host of celebrities came to celebrate one of their own. The Chairman of PCI-Prime Group, Mr Surinder Mehta, unveiled the latest art works at a glittering function attended by dancers Rashmi Vaidialingam, Pratibha Prahlad, Raja and Kaushalya Reddy, Sharon Lowen, Dhrupad singer Wasifuddin Dagar, Painters; Niren Sengupta, Nupur Kundu, Babita Gupta, Kanchan, Dharmendra Rathore, Vilas, Anita Kulkarni and Baljit Chadha, Manmohan Chadha, Neha Mehta, Fashion designer Rahul Jain, bureaucrat Bhaskar Chatterjee, orthopedic surgeon Dr Manoj Vatsa and cartoonist Sudhir Tailang, among others. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajeev Lochan lauded the versatility of Alka's work as an artist, curator and writer and the holistic approach to the arts in very glowing terms. Odissi danseuse Sharon Lowen called Alka a polymath who brings excellence to whatever she chooses to do. She recalled the projects they had worked on together. A visibly moved Alka said that the journey has not been easy, yet an interesting one. She talked about the paintings on display and the fascination with metallic colours. The guests were all seen having a good time till late in the evening.
